Donald J. Dion's Obituary
Mr. Donald J. Dion, age 82, passed away on December 3, 2013. He was born on July 20, 1931 to Malcolm and Loretta (Gahan) Dion in Muskegon. He was an active member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church. Don served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Prior to 1994 he had worked for over 35 years as an AFM Machine Operator at S.D. Warren. Then Don went on to work at D & W Food Centers, Inc. from 1995 to 2007 before retiring. Don was a faithful man who enjoyed bike riding, camping, baseball and Muskegon Catholic Football. On May 3, 1958 he married Marilyn Chaney and she survives him along with 6 children, Ed (Sally) Dion of Muskegon, Lori (Darian) Kevwitch of Traverse City, Michael (Michelle) Dion of Muskegon, David Dion of Muskegon, Suzanne (Derek Zmarly) Weiss of Muskegon, and Larry (Chris) Dion of Muskegon; 17 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers, Robert (Pauline) Dion and John Dion; 2 sisters, Mary Hirschauer and Jeanine (Clinton) Baker; 2 brothers-in-law, Jim Dalum and Larry Slorf along with many nieces and nephews. Donald was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Sara Lou Dalum; sister-in-law, Jean Slorf; 3 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. A MEMORIAL MASS will be held December 10, 2013 at 11:00 AM at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Philip P. Salmonowicz presiding. VISITATION with the family will be one hour prior at church. Burial will take place at Lakeside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the family.
