Mr. Donald Paul Erickson's Obituary
Mr. Donald Paul Erickson, age 89, went home to be with his Lord, Friday evening, August 9, 2013, at the Poppen Residence. He was born September 15, 1923 in Muskegon to George A. and Zelda M. (Wachsmuth) Erickson. On December 24, 1943, he married the former Olga C. Marek in Muskegon and she preceded him in death on October 30, 2004. Donald served his Country proudly during WWII in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He retired from SPx as a design engineer, after 25 years with the company. Early on in his career, he worked with Morton Manufacturing. Donald was a long time member of Trinity Lutheran Church. Don was also an accomplished woodworker, making many pieces of furniture and keepsakes for family members throughout the years. Most of all, Donald was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, Christian, patriot, and part of our now fading, greatest generation. He is survived by his children, Karen S. (Jeffrey) Stipes of Norton Shores and Susan K. (Gerald) Reeves of Mattawan, MI; 4 grandchildren, Brian (Laurie) Stipes, Anne (Christopher) Maurer, Eric (Melissa) Reeves and Kristen (Vincent) Workman; and 9 great grandchildren, Matthew Stipes, Thomas Maurer, Erica Stipes, Benjamin Maurer, Gavin Reeves, Maximus Workman, Lauryn Reeves, Maya Workman and Isabelle Maurer; a sister, Doris Geoghan of Muskegon; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Robert G. Erickson. A FUNERAL SERVICE will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, August 15, 2013 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 3225 Roosevelt Rd., with Rev. George Hamilton officiating and Full Military Rites afforded under the auspices of V.F.W. Muskegon County Council. VISITATION will be one hour prior to the service (10-11AM). ENTOMBMENT will be in Evergreen Cemetery. MEMORIAL CONTRIBUTIONS may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, Harbor Hospice, or the NOAH project.
