Donald C. Fitt's Obituary
Mr. Donald Clifton Fitt, age 84, of Grand Ledge, MI and formerly of North Muskegon, died Thursday, September 3, 2015, in Grand Ledge. He was born September 28, 1930 in Muskegon to Percy and Alvilda (Locke) Fitt (Lund), and lived most of his life in the area. Don was a four year varsity football and basketball player, prior to graduating, in 1950, from North Muskegon High School. He was a Korean War veteran of the U.S. Army, serving with the Military Police both stateside and in Trieste, Italy. On June 10, 1955 Don married the former Ardis Louise Bishop. He had worked at North Shores Celery Farm, Brunswick, Norge and American Coil Springs, prior to graduating from Muskegon Community College and Western Michigan University. Don then began teaching at Maple Grove School and continued in the Mona Shores School system until his retirement in 1987. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, walking, vegetable gardening, flea marketing and antiquing with his wife, Ardis. He was a member of Laketon Bethel Reformed Church, Sons of Norway and of the Don Rea VFW Post. He had taught driver’s training for Muskegon Public School District and Mona Shores School District; and had also worked for the Norton Shores Parks and Recreation Department. Don was preceded in death by his wife, Ardis, in 2012; his parents; brother, Bill Fitt and sister, Clara Jane VanDonkelaar Chubb. In keeping with Don’s wishes, a private family service was held. Those wishing to make an expression of sympathy are asked to consider a donation to the Salvation Army or Habitat for Humanity.
