Donald "Don" Gronevelt's Obituary
Mr. Donald “Don” Gronevelt, age 88, of Grand Haven passed away Friday, October 2, 2015 at North Ottawa Community Hospital. He was born May 20, 1927 in Grand Haven to John and Anna (Ruiter) Gronevelt.
Don was a member of Second Christian Reformed Church and a former member of Trinity Reformed Church, the Kiwanis Club and Grand Haven Jaycees, Boy Scout troop 16 and was a former Scoutmaster. He loved playing golf, and in his earlier years he was an avid outdoorsman, enjoyed water skiing, hunting, fishing and camping with his family. He loved to fly. One of his first long solo flights was with his best friend Kenny Stark out to Cheyenne, Wyoming in an Aeronca Champ two seater in the early 50’s.
Don has been blessed with many loves in his life. In 1948 he married the former Della Van Oordt and she preceded him in death in 1990, he married his second wife Harriet Swartz in 1991 and she preceded him in death in 1999 and he was blessed to marry Lila Weeden in 2001. She survives him along with his four children: Sandy Yedinak, Robert (Kim) Gronevelt, Bette Ann (Jan) Goins, and Scott (Jane) Gronevelt; eleven grandchildren: Emily (Ben) Hayes, Betsy Yedinak, Justine (Andrew) Liang, Joel (Kayla) Gronevelt, Kelli (Steve) VanZweden, Arin Wiegand, Jordan Wiegand, Trent Wiegand, Michelle (Patrick) McLaughlin, Paige Gronevelt, and Shannon Gronevelt; two great-grandchildren: Benjamin and Claire. He is also survived by a sister, Katie (Marvin) Vandernoot, a brother, Paul (Alyce) Gronevelt; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Anna; brother, Richard Gronevelt; son-in-law, Richard Yedinak.
Funeral services for Don will be 11:00 AM Monday, October 5, 2015 at Second Christian Reformed Church with Rev. Duane Kelderman officiating. Visitation will be 4-6 PM Sunday, October 4, 2015 at VanZantwick Bartels Kammeraad Funeral Home in Grand Haven.
