Donald Richard "Don" Jorgenson's Obituary
Donald Richard “Don” Jorgenson, age 86, passed away on August 30, 2024, in Muskegon, MI. He was born July 13, 1938, to Edwin and Juanita (Staley) Jorgenson in Muskegon, MI. He graduated from Muskegon High School and would go on to serve our country in the United States Marines. After the service, Don worked for GTE/Verizon for over 30 years, retiring as a Crew Install/Repair Supervisor. Don also served his community as a firefighter with the Norton Shores Fire Department for 30 years, retiring as a Captain. On June 17, 1961, he married Kathryn Baxter and they were able to spend 63 wonderful years together.
Don enjoyed being outside and spending time boating, fishing, and hunting. He was an avid golfer and was a course Ranger at the Oak Ridge Golf Club for many years. He also was a member of the Elks Club, Mona Lake Boat Club and Oak Ridge Golf Club. Don and Kathryn enjoyed spending time in Arizona during the winter months and he loved spending time back home with grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Don will be dearly missed by his wife, Kathryn; daughters, Susan Durham and Diane Jorgenson; grandchildren, Ashley (Jackson) Heidelberg, Nicholas Jackson, Lucas Durham and Brianna (Jackson) Forrest; 5 great-grandchildren; brother, Glen (Peggy) Jorgenson; sister-in-law, Bonnie Jorgenson; and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Allan Jorgenson; and brother, Lawrence Jorgenson.
A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be 3 PM Friday, September 6, 2024, at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services (6291 Harvey St., Norton Shores, MI 49444) with VISITATION with the family 1 hour prior to the service. Please consider a MEMORIAL CONTRIBUTION in honor of Don to Boystown.org.
