Donald Martin Nielsen's Obituary
Donald M. Nielsen, age 79, passed away very unexpectedly on Thursday, September 12, 2024 at Trinity Health – Muskegon Campus. Don was born February 15, 1945 in Muskegon to Martin E. and Marguerite (Mulder) Nielsen and was a lifelong resident of the area. Don served in the U.S Army National Guard. He graduated from North Muskegon High School where he excelled in all athletics. He earned his associates degree from Ferris State University and worked over 30 years as a journeyman pattern maker. He had worked for Pyle Pattern, Teledyne-Continental Motors and retired in 2006 from Paragon Pattern. Don married Susan J. Joslyn on May 11, 1968 in Muskegon and she survives him. Don grew up on Bear Lake and many years ago, he received a certificate from the American Red Cross for saving a person from drowning in Bear Lake. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and won a state championship contest for trapshooting. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Survivors include his loving wife of 56 years, Susan J. Nielsen; 2 children, Holly (Trent) Scheuer, Bart (Jan) Nielsen; and 5 grandchildren, Katie, Kelsey, Allie, Sean and Jake. He was preceded in death by his parents and special uncle, Jim Mulder. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, September 20, 2024 at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 6291 Harvey Street, Norton Shores, MI 49444, with Rev. Gerald Hagans officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service on Friday. Memorial Contributions may be directed to The Salvation Army or The Muskegon Rescue Mission.
