Donald H. North's Obituary
Donald H. North, age 95 of Spring Lake, passed away Tuesday, July 19, 2016, at Heartwood Lodge Hospice Residence. He was born March 17, 1921, in Grand Haven to Earl S. and Alice (Holsten) North and he married Lorraine Margaret Fast on October 26, 1944, in Michigan City, Indiana. She preceded him in death on March 29, 2000.
Don served his country in the Army during WWII, was a member of DAV, VFW, and the American Legion. He formerly owned Sundown Sheet Metal, and was the maintenance man at Cote La Mer. Don especially enjoyed reading on his I pad, music, old records, going out to eat, hunting, fishing, riding his bike, traveling, and most of all spending time with his family.
He is survived by his daughter, Vicki Solow of Nunica; his son, Gregory North of Ferrysburg; eight grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother, Willard North.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, July 23, 2016, at VanZantwick Bartels Kammeraad Funeral Home in Grand Haven with Rev. Gerald Poehl officiating. Military honors will be provided by the American Legion Charles A. Conklin Post # 28 Honor Guard. Interment will be in Spring Lake Township Cemetery at a later date.
