Donald Lee Parsons' Obituary
Donald Lee Parsons, age 85, of Ferrysburg passed away Thursday, June 18, 2015, at home. He was born February 18, 1930, in Pontiac to James Henry and Violet Esther (Keach) Parsons, and he married Maria Lena Vander Zanden on October 21, 1972 in Muskegon.
Donald proudly served his country in the Air Force during the Korean War. He was a fifty year member of the Charles A. Conklin American Legion Post #28, and a member of the Sgt. Alvin Jonker V.F.W. Post #2326. Don worked as a maintenance technician for the Grand Haven Board of Light and Power, retiring in 1994. He loved golfing, playing pool, road trips, and playing cards; especially pinochle, and most of all spending time with his family.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Maria Parsons of Ferrysburg; two daughters, Robin Nienhuis (Alan) of Dimondale, Nichole Parsons (Earl) of Spring Lake; two sons, Anthony (Tina) Devereaux of St. Louis, MO and David (Cindy) Devereaux of Palestine, TX; three grandchildren: Dana Parsons, Michael (Caroline) Miles, and James Smedley; three great-grandchildren: Noah, Tiffinie, and Jill. He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Kathryn Parsons; and his brother, Fay Parsons.
A memorial service for Don will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 24, 2015, at VanZantwick Bartels Kammeraad Funeral Home in Grand Haven with Rev. Dan Anderson officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Charles A. Conklin American Legion Post #28 Honor Guard. Friends may meet the family one hour prior to the service.
