Donald Fred Rahrig's Obituary
Donald Fred Rahrig, age 89, passed away Friday, October 18, 2019 at Chestnut Fields Living Center. He was born July 28, 1930 in Muskegon to Fred and Olive (Edsall) Rahrig and lived his entire life in the area. On May 8, 1954, he married Wilma “Rose” Kiss at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Muskegon Heights and she preceded him in death on August 24, 2019. Don was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served during the Korean War. Don worked as a milk deliveryman for Farr View and Country Fresh Dairies before his retirement. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and was an avid fan of Notre Dame and Muskegon Catholic Central. Don enjoyed fishing, especially for perch and with his neighbor, Tom Christmas. Survivors include 4 children, Jill Rahrig, Kurt (fiancé, Rei Gonzales) Rahrig, Kevin (Lori Houghton-Rahrig) Rahrig, Kent (Gwen Adams) Rahrig; 7 grandchildren, Elizabeth (Corey) Humfleet, Paul (Beth) Rahrig, Peter (Emily) Rahrig, Meredith Rahrig, Elaina Rahrig, Megan Rahrig, Andy Townsend; 4 great-grandchildren, Benjamin, Aiden, Jayce, Logan; 3 sisters-in-law, Helen Kiss, Ione Rahrig, Esther Rahrig; and very close family friend & “4th son”, Rudy (Judy) Varela. He was preceded in death by 1 grandson, John Ryan Bourdon in 2017; his parents; and 2 brothers, Kenneth Rahrig and Thomas Rahrig. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 AM Tuesday, October 22, 2019 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church (150 E. Summit Ave.) with the Rev. Fr. Norman P. Droski presiding. Military Honors will be offered by the Muskegon County Council of Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Michigan National Guard. Visitation will be held 6-8 PM Monday at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 6291 Harvey St, Norton Shores, MI 49444 where the Rosary will be prayed at 6:00 PM. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to Mass, 10-11 AM Tuesday in the Victor Miller Room at Sacred Heart. Entombment will take place at St. Mary’s Mausoleum.
