Donald A. Scofield's Obituary
Donald A. Scofield, a Prostate Cancer Survivor, passed away of natural causes on Monday, April 15, 2024. He was born on November 14, 1934, to Harold and Ruby (Felty) Scofield in Muskegon, Michigan. Don graduated from Muskegon High School (Class of 1952 National Honor Society) and attended Muskegon Community College prior to joining Sealed Power/SPX Corporation. He retired after 40 years of service and held several management positions including: National Distribution Center-LaGrange, Indiana; Human Resources and Financial Staff at the Corporate Headquarters in Muskegon; After-Market Sales responsibilities that required extensive traveling. Later in he career, Don became the General Manager of a Joint Venture Co. (RSPA) between Sealed Power Corporation and a Japanese Co. (RIKEN).
Don was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #706, Mona Lake Boating Club, and was a founding member of the MHS Perch Eaters. Also, he belonged to several Muskegon Service Organizations – including Ambucs, and The Exchange Club. After his retirement, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, and attending high school and college sporting events with his family and friends.
In his youth, Don played football, basketball and baseball until his junior year in high school, when a sports injury sidelined him that caused him to be a spectator as his MHS Classmates won state championships in both baseball and football in 1951.
Don supported sports activities at Muskegon High School, Muskegon Catholic Central, and especially Reeths-Puffer High School for the last several years where he was known as “Grandpa Gum.”
Donald was a member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents and son-in-law, Joseph Britt.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Mary Ann (Reeths) Scofield; his children, Kristi (Robert) Prinz, Vicki (Mark) Brown, Mari Beth Britt, Terry Scofield, Patti Costner; his wife’s children, Jeffrey (Stacey) Uganski, Jera (James) Adams; grandchildren, Brittanie Coleman, Adam Prinz, Nicole Prinz, Ryan Britt, Lucas Britt, Samantha Scofield, Ashley Costner, Lindsey Costner, Katharine Uganski, Jacob Uganski, Hayden Glick, Shelbi Adams; their spouses, significant others and eight great-grandchildren.
As a lasting memorial, you may make donations to the Athletic Programs at Reeths-Puffer High School, Muskegon Catholic Central, or Muskegon High School.
According to his wishes, there will be no funeral.
