Donald L. Steele's Obituary
Mr. Donald L. Steele, age 72, said his final goodbye as “Later Turkey” on Saturday, May 16, 2020 in Muskegon. He was born March 31, 1948 to Tom and Bernice (Paige) Steele in Muskegon, and was a lifelong resident. Don worked as a Corrections Officer Supervisor for the State of Michigan for 26 years before retiring. He was a U.S. Army veteran of Vietnam, was a past commander of the VFW Post #9388, and was a dedicated member and custodian of Mount Zion Church of God. Don was known to his sons-in-law as “Chief” because he was the leader of his family circle. He will always be remembered for his willingness to help others. On August 12, 1995 Don married Sherri L. Walton, and she survives him along with 4 children: Robin (Chris) Steele-Moore, Jason Walton, Jessica Foster, Janiva (Derric) Walton-Sargent; grandchildren: Kani, Kingsley, Caldwell and Jaida Moore, Jaceon and Jaiden Walton, Jaelin Scrivens; brothers: Tommy (Ethel) Steele, Charles (Louise) Steele, Robert (Jacque) Steele, Larry and Jerry Steele. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, and 1 sister Delores Johnson. Due to social distancing and COVID-19 restrictions, private family services will be held.
