Donald Lewis Stout's Obituary
Mr. Donald Lewis Stout, age 92, passed away Friday, December 4, 2015, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Muskegon on July 20, 1923 to Clarence and Flossie (McGowen) Stout. On December 2, 1946, Don married the former Dorothy Markowski in Jeffersonville, Indiana and they just celebrated 69 wonderful years of marriage together. Don was a veteran of the United States Army and served 28 years with the National Guard. He was a member of the 126th Infantry, and served overseas in the South Pacific from April, 1942 – June, 1945. He received the Combat Infantryman’s badge, Distinguished Unit badge, Asiatic-Pacific ribbon with four bronze battle stars, the Philippine Liberation ribbon with one bronze star, the Purple Heart (for being wounded in New Guinea), the American Defense ribbon and six overseas bars. In addition to his military career, Don served with the Muskegon Police Department for 40 years, retiring as Lieutenant in 1986. He was voted Policeman of the Year in 1974 by the Muskegon Exchange Club. Don was a member of the Polish Union, Polish Falcons, Lakeside Vets, Muskegon Vikings, F.O.P. #99, and the Don Rea VFW Post #8846. After his retirement, Don enjoyed traveling with his wife. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; four children, Ronald (Shelley) Stout, Daniel (Flora) Stout, Debra Stout and Sharon (Terry) Johnson; 12 grandchildren, Matt, Chris, Scott, Becky, Danny, Chad, Nikki, Rhonda, Michelle, Erin, Olivia and Kelley; 13 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Eugene Ferris Stout and a half-brother, Jay Dake. SERVICES will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, December 9, 2015 at The Walburn Chapel, 1547 W. Sherman Blvd., 231-759-8565 with Rev. John Brown officiating. VISITATION will be from 2-4 & 6-8 PM Tuesday. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery.
