Mr. Donald John VanderKooi Jr.'s Obituary
Mr. Donald John VanderKooi Jr., age 66, passed away Thursday morning, April 24, 2014, at an area hospital. Don was born March 25, 1948 to Donald and Elfriede (Hacker) VanderKooi in Muskegon. On May 4, 1968, he married the former Judith Jean DePoy in Muskegon and she survives him. Don spent the past 39 years with Howmet working as a sales engineer. He enjoyed golfing and was involved with the league at the Thoroughbred Golf Club at Double J Ranch. Don loved to cook and grill; often inviting friends and family over to enjoy lunch or dinner. Don was a longtime member of Family Bible Church and was a loving husband, father and grandfather. In addition to Judy, his wife of nearly 46 years, Don is survived by his children, Dan (Angie) VanderKooi and Kayle VanderKooi, all of Muskegon; 5 grandchildren, Paige VanderKooi, Elizabeth and Cody Taylor, Kale and Kaysi VanderKooi; 3 brothers, Mark (Sharon), Ron (Sandy), and Steve (Robin) VanderKooi, all of the Muskegon area; a sister, Gisela (Charlie) Barnes of Muskegon; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held 11:00 AM Monday, April 28, 2014 at Family Bible Church, 1256 W. Broadway with Rev. Jerry DePoy, Don’s brother-in-law, officiating. VISITATION will be one hour prior to the service (10-11 AM) at the church.
