Donald R. Williams' Obituary
Donald R. Williams, age 82, passed away Saturday, September 23, 2017. He was born October 10, 1934 in Calumet, MI to Russell and Agnes (Schimetz) Williams. Don was a U.S. Army Veteran and had worked as a self-employed sales representative for the aftermarket engine rebuilding equipment business. On November 2, 1963, he married the former Roberta Spaniolo in Muskegon. He played hockey, and on his skates, he was unstoppable. He also coached little league hockey, baseball, and football. His love of sports was unending. Don’s passion was watching and rooting for the Detroit Tigers, Red Wings, and Lions. One of his fondest memories in his life was the day one of the Detroit Tigers moved next door to him in 1967. During the night of the riot in Detroit, the player had a party at his home and many of the other Tiger players were there. Don was awestruck. In 1968, he and Roberta were invited to Lakeland, FL for spring training and he got a chance to meet all the players. Don leaves behind his wife, Roberta; 3 children: Mike Williams, Scott (Barbara) Williams, Barbara (Andrew) Holmes; and 7 grandchildren he adored: Samantha, Brandon, Julia, Kerri, Andrea, Megan, and Carson. Don was preceded in death by his brother, John; sister-in-law, Carol Spaniolo; and 2 nephews: Derek and Anthony Jourden. Per Don’s request, cremation will take place, and a private family Celebration of his Life will be held later.
