Donald E. Ohs' Obituary
Mr. Donald E. Ohs, age 81, went to be with the Lord on Friday, June 19th following a long illness. He was a graduate of Muskegon High School class of 1946. He excelled in baseball and played in the City League for many years. He played football for the Big Reds and also the semi pro football team, the Holland Hurricanes. He was employed as a machine operator at Bennett Pump Co. for 34 years, retiring in 1987. In 1955 he married the former Alberta Schutt. She preceded him in death in 1979. Don then married the former Betty Backer Townsend in 1982 and she survives him along with: 3 step-children, Judy (Stan) Hale, Diane Kerekes and Lyle Townsend (fiancé’, Tara Gilbert); 8 grandchildren, Tami (Chris) David, Janelle (Andrew) Larder, Scott Lasley, Stan Hale III, Kristi Kerekes, Jason Kerekes, Ryan Townsend, Nick Townsend and special friend Richard (Cid) Blais. Don was a member of the Leather Helmet Club, life member of the Muskegon Bowman Club and enjoyed fishing and woodworking. Don was an avid golfer and throughout the years, played in many of the city golf tournaments. He served in the U.S. Army from 1946 to 1948 during the Japan Occupation. Don was a devoted member at McGraft Memorial Congregational Church, serving on many boards and committees. A memorial service will be held at: McGraft Church, Tuesday, 11:00 A.M Dr. Gerald Wahr officiating. Visitation with family: one hour prior to the service.
