Donald E. "Don" Johnson's Obituary
Mr. Donald E. “Don” Johnson, age 82, passed away Saturday, June 11, 2011 at Roosevelt Park Nursing Home. He was born November 20, 1928 in Hawley, MN to Herbert and Hildur (Dahl) Johnson and lived in the Muskegon area most of his life. He earned his high school diploma at Muskegon High School graduating in 1946. Following high school, he served in the U.S. Army 1947-48 during the occupation of Japan. On November 2, 1957, he married the former Audrey K. Cogle in Ludington and she survives him. Don worked in sales at Lidke Lumber in Scottville and Cashway Lumber in Muskegon. He had also worked 17 years in sales and marketing for R. J. Reynolds Company. He retired in 1994 after working as a custodian for Central United Methodist Church in downtown Muskegon. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, carpentry work and biking. He was also very active in the Muskegon Conservation Club. Along with his wife, Audrey, Don is survived by 3 children, Scott (Karen) Johnson of Holland, Suzann (Dan) Ruch of DeWitt, Sally (Carim) Calkins of West Bloomfield; 3 grandchildren, Zachary and Abigail Ruch, and Jacob Calkins; 1 brother-in-law, John Mayo of Muskegon; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and 1 sister, Bernice Mayo. A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held 1:00 PM Monday, June 20, 2011 at Mona Shores Baptist Church (3800 Lake Harbor Road) with Pastor Andy Husmann officiating. VISITATION will take place one hour prior to the service, 12-1 PM Monday at the church.
