Donald G. "Don" Rainbolt, Sr.'s Obituary
Mr. Donald G. “Don” Rainbolt, Sr., age 80, died Monday evening, June 7, 2004 after a long struggle with strokes and pneumonia. He was born October 18, 1923 in Ottumwa, Iowa to Claude and Mildred (Greer) Rainbolt, and had resided in the Muskegon area for most of his life, except for a period of time in Missouri. Mr. Rainbolt was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII, where he held the rank of Staff Sergeant, and was in the Battle of the Bulge under General Patton. He was a charter member of the VFW Post 446. Mr. Rainbolt worked for West Michigan Dock for 51 ½ years before his retirement. Mr. Rainbolt was a member of First Presbyterian Church, where he served as one of the deacons, sang in the Chancel Choir since 1955, and volunteered his time. He loved to golf and bowl on his leagues, and loved to fish on his property up north on the Pine River. He also did some hunting. On November 24, 1942, he married the former Lucille Bugbee in Muskegon and she survives him along with a daughter, Cheryl (William) Smith of Muskegon; 3 brothers, Harold (Mildred) Rainbolt of Clermont, FL, Robert (Joyce) Rainbolt of Robertsville, AL, Herbert (Josephine) Rainbolt of Muskegon; and all the Rainbolt and Greer clan. He was preceded in death by a son, Donald Rainbolt, Jr.; sister, Lillian Swartz; 2 brothers, Claude and Richard Rainbolt. SERVICES will be 1:00 PM Thursday at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Dr. Fred Halde officiating. Burial will be in Sunrise Memorial Gardens. VISITATION with the family will be from 6-8 PM today at
