Donald Glen Pickett's Obituary
Mr. Donald Glen Pickett, age 81, passed away early Saturday morning, January 17, 2009, at the VNS Hospice House. Don was born April 8, 1927 in Muskegon to Carl F. and Minnie (Bettys) Pickett. Mr. Pickett served his country in the U.S. Army Air Corps and later served 25 years with the National Guard. Donald married the former Joan Humphreys in Muskegon on May 20, 1949. He was retired from General Telephone after 38 years of service. Don was a former member of the Moose Lodge and the American Legion. He also enjoyed wood working and clock making.
Donald is survived by his wife of 59 years, Joan; a daughter, Sharon (David) VanderVeen of Muskegon; 3 sons, Michael Pickett of Reston, VA. Robert (Kelly) Pickett of Muskegon, and Steven (Marjorie) Pickett of McDonough , GA; a sister, Phyllis (Gene) Roberts of Twin Lake; 2 brothers, Lauren (Gaby) Pickett of Lansing, MI, and Kenneth (Pat) Pickett of Mesa, AZ; a sister-in-law, Betty Pickett of Muskegon; 3 grandchildren, Todd (Carrie) VanderVeen, Mark (Liz) VanderVeen, and Joshua Pickett; and many nieces and nephews. Don was preceded in death by his sister Edna Wilson; 2 brothers, Richard and Jack; and his infant granddaughter, Kristin. A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held 11 AM Wednesday, January 21, 2009 at The Lee Chapel, Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc. 6291 S. Harvey St. 231-798-1100 with The Rev. John Cell Officiating and Full Military Rites under the auspices of the V.F.W. Muskegon County Council and the Michigan Army National Guard Honor Guard.
