Donald L. Manning's Obituary
Donald L. Manning, age 61, of Grand Haven passed away unexpectedly Sunday, January 6, 2008, at his home. He was born December 15, 1946, in Jackson, Michigan, to Sheldon and Frances (Rutledge) Manning.
Mr. Manning moved to the Tri-Cities area in his early 20’s, and he retired from Consumers Energy J.H. Campbell plant in West Olive in July of 2007 after 30 years of employment. He attended First Wesleyan Church in Muskegon, and he was a member and former president of the Utility Workers Union of America, Local 388. He enjoyed his family, and he especially loved spending time with his grandchildren and following their athletic accomplishments. Don also enjoyed traveling, playing cards and euchre, sports, and old music.
He is survived by his loving wife, Gaila Holland Manning, whom he married November 12, 2005; three daughters, Kelly (Harry) Falconer of Grand Haven, Heather Manning of Clinton Township, MI, and Mindie (Randy) Willey of Grand Haven; three sons: Micah Manning of Clinton Township, MI, Jason (Maureen) Robbins of Lake Ann, MI, and Corey Robbins of Tampa, FL; his mother- and father-in-law, John and Aline Holland of Grand Haven; six grandchildren: Avery Crowley Manning of Clinton Township, Tyler and Jessica Robbins of Lake Ann, Payton and Paige Willey of Grand Haven, and Adrianna Manning of Grand Haven; three brothers: Tom (Lori) Manning of Broken Arrow, OK, Ron (Marlene) Manning of Jackson, MI, and Rick (Deb) Manning of Jackson, MI; a sister, Barb (Dave) Poynter of Midland, MI; three brothers-in-law: Garry (Cindy) Holland of Traverse City, MI, Tim (Dawn) Holland of Sidney, Nebraska, and Mathew VanderMeiden of Grand Haven; four sisters-in-law: Denise Glenn (Drean McCall) of Cary, NC, Gail (Chuck) Cummins of Muskegon, Kendra (Rick) Ehlers of Spring Valley, CA, and Lynna (John) Loyselle of Grand Haven; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Don was preceded in death by his first wife of 36 years, Darcia Manning, in June of 2003, and two brothers, Norm and Bobby Manning.
The service for Don will be held at 12:00 p.m. Thursday, January 10, 2008, at VanZantwick Bartels Kammeraad Funeral Home in Grand Haven with Rev. Richard Bennett officiating. Friends may meet the family 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, January 9, and one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Lake Forest Cemetery.
