Donald L. McPherson's Obituary
Donald L. McPherson, age 79, of Grand Haven left this earth on the evening of Saturday, March 24th, 2007, to be in the comforting presence of our Lord. He was born on September 10, 1927, to Levi and Arabel (Brown) McPherson in Spring Lake.
Mr. McPherson served in the United States Army Air Corps. from 1946-1949 and in 1950 he married MaryLou Krombeen of Grand Rapids. Together they had two sons and enjoyed a full and wonderful marriage until her death in 1993. Mr. McPherson was employed at Olbergs of Grand Haven for 31 years and after his retirement he was self-employed, designing and selling fishing tackle. He had a great love for the outdoors, fishing, wildlife, and the Upper Peninsula. He enjoyed puzzles and card games, and his love of life was reflected in energetic conversations with family and friends. In 1994 he married Gunhild Wetterman of Grand Haven and together they enjoyed traveling to the Upper Peninsula, Myrtle Beach, SC, and entertaining family and friends.
Survivors include his wife, Gunhild McPherson; two sons, Dennis of Robinson Township and Gary (Kaew) of Thailand; two sisters, Neva Schultz of Grand Haven and Lorene (Rudolph) Klopp of Grand Haven; two brothers, Franklin (Nancy) of Fruitport and Leon of Crockery Township; one grandson, Joseph McPherson of Texas; and various members of his extended family, including step-children, step-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, MaryLou (Krombeen) McPherson, and four brothers.
A memorial service for Don will be held at Second Reformed Church in Grand Haven on Saturday, March 31st, 2007, at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Kevin Jean officiating. Friends may meet the family one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in Lakeshore Cemetery.
