All of the many expressions of heartfelt sympathy are so touching. Thank you from the Warnaar family.
You have confirmed his influence as an outstanding band director and trumpet teacher, but also so much more. The ultimate goal in music education is to enstill a love of music that will encourage a student to make music an integrel part of ones life forever. Dave Strobe, you nailed it when you said he had a talent for challenging even the best musicians in his groups and stretching them just a little bit more. Orchard View Bands were certainly among THE BEST in the State!
It is so fitting that the memorial scholarship to Blue Lake Camp has been established. Don was in on the ground floor of Blue Lake Camp some 45 years ago! I remember like it was yesterday, sitting around a cozy fire at the Stansell's home on Lake Michigan with the Krive's, the Bjerregaard's and many others dreaming and brainstorming about a possible Music Camp. Then two months later discussing the Boy Scount Camp which was for sale and how can we turn in into a music camp. The rest is history.
During those early years we had two little girls and another on the way and no money to put into the venture, so we gave 'sweat equity'. We raked leaves, pounded nails, and painted, and as the first camps opened we taught 'out in the woods'. Don has been a supporter, teacher, and conductor at Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp ever since.
I just wanted you to know the long long time connections that make this memorial so important and so very meaningful. Thank you, and bless everyone of you who have written rememberances, and especially Don's family of the last 16 years.

Sorry to read about Don's passing. I will always remember the fun we had at Camp Maplehurst. Yes, the bonfire and that tremendously long walk up the ski hill after having marched our legs off all week... He had a great influence on many and will be missed. Hi Joan and family,
I wanted to send my deepest condolences to you. Don (Mr. Warnaar), my band teacher, was a great man. He helped continue my education in music and deepen my appreciation for all instrumental music.
I still fondly look back at band camp and one of my most favorite memories is when he would wake us up with his trumpet in the morning. I can remember the year after he retired and none of us wanted to get out of bed until the trumpet "woke us up". May you all find peace during this trialing time.

I'm a professional musician and Don was one of those people who encouraged me along the way. I played countless times with the Big Band and learned alot. Thanks Don! R.I.P.

To the Warnaar Family and especially Linda and Laura whom I went to chruch and school with...
I am so sorry for your loss. Your dad was so neat a person. Very fun loving and happy which he instilled in all his daughters. I know you will miss him. I was sorry to miss the visitation as I just read the paper today and will be unable to attend the funeral. Sorry to have missed seeing you all again. It has been too long. If you have a few minutes to chat, call me at 616-296-9090. I am a resident of GH again after all these years.
My sincere sympathy,

I started learning from Mr Warner in private lessons in the 3rd grade. He always took the time to nurture me and point me in the right direction. In high school our relationship strained due to my arrogance, but after playing in the Air Force band and in various big bands for all these years, I owe my abilities to the lessons and challenges Don Warner gave me. I will always remember him and smile.##imported-begin##Kenn Kantola##imported-end##
Thank you for sharing your passion of music with myself and all of your students through your teachings at Orchard View. God Bless you and your family.
