Donna L. DeJonge's Obituary
Mrs. Donna L. DeJonge, 92, passed away Wednesday, June 8, 2022, in Muskegon. She was born December 27, 1929, in Ludington to Floyd and Vera (Rose) Rake and lived most of her life in Muskegon. She worked at the Muskegon Regional Developmental Center for many years before retiring and was a member of Fellowship Church. Soon after the De Jonge's were married they built their home and used lumber from the trees they took down from the same lot. After retirement, they pursued their many interests. They loved riding their Goldwing motorcycle and joined a Goldwing Riders Association. They made many good friends during their many trips. The longest trip being to Mexico. They rode from Michigan all the way to Mexico and toured different areas of the country. Unfortunately, during two of their small trips in Michigan, they did have a couple collisions that set them back a bit. After Donna broke a leg in an accident, they decided to slow down a bit, so they bought a sidecar for the motorcycle, until they eventually had to give it up altogether. Donna Loved sharing jokes with the family and enjoyed all types of card and board games. She enjoyed reading, especially spiritual and self-help books. Donna was a survivor of 4 different cancers. She enjoyed playing the organ and was an excellent seamstress. She sewed a bridesmaid dress and flower girl dress for two weddings, knitted sweaters, hats, scarves, mittens, slippers and quilts. She also crafted handsewn dolls, made many childhood outfits, and if you needed something sewn or mended, she was always happy to help. She used her skills for fun and charity. Donna and Harold together made puppets, dolls, bridal books, towels, rice packs, etc and sold some of their wares at a booth a Ross Park Art Fair for a couple years. Both of them were also miniature enthusiasts. At one time they had such a large assortment of dollhouses, they had an entire dollhouse neighborhood in their basement. Mom was a true servant of her Lord and was always willing to help others. She worked with the women’s guild at her church for many years sewing quilts for the needy. She was full of love. Her family and friends were very important to her. On June 14, 1947, Donna married Harold C. DeJonge, and he preceded her in death on November 19, 2007. Survivors include her three daughters: Nancy Hegedus, Vicky (Robert) Melamed, Carol (Joe) Paquin; 7 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-granddaughter. She was also preceded in death by four brothers and sisters. The funeral service will be Monday, June 13, at noon at Fellowship Church, 4200 Apple Ave, Muskegon, 49442. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service, from 11:00 AM until noon. Burial will take place at Sunrise Memorial Gardens.
