Donna Lee Dykema's Obituary
Donna Lee Dykema, age 72, passed away Friday, April 27, 2012 at the Brookhaven Medical Care Facility after a lengthy period of declining health. She was the firstborn child of the late Peter and Anna Dykema on January 17, 1940. She graduated from Muskegon High School in 1958, received her Associate degree at Baker College and resided in Muskegon her entire life. During her working years, Donna was employed at Brunswick, Sears and Muskegon County. Donna enjoyed life and laughter, saying “the real party fun didn’t begin until she arrived”. With her sense of humor and ability to identify and laugh at human frailties, she often entertained those around her. She loved rides to Lake Michigan, classic cars, music, clothes and memories of the 50’s. Sharing those things with her special friend, Neil Karel was the greatest joy in her life. The last decade of her life, the two of them enjoyed each other’s company, traveling across the country and visiting many special places together. It was with Neil that she spent the last evening of her life. Donna leaves behind her three daughters and three beloved grandchildren, Dianne Rebedew and son Dillon Baker, Debra Rebedew and son, Shawn Smith and Denise Rebedew and daughter Amber George. She is also survived by her sisters, Janice (John) Briggs and Marianne (Joe) Fields; her brother, John (Carla) Dykema; many nieces and nephews; and her aunt, Bernadine Dykema. A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held Wednesday, May 2, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at The Lee Chapel, 6291 S. Harvey St., (231) 798-1100, Rev. Dwight Reed will officiate. VISITATION will begin 1 hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be directed to Comerica Bank, FBO Education for the grandchildren of Donna Dykema.
