Donna Jean Hall's Obituary
Donna Jean Hall, age 92, passed away peacefully with her family by her side, on November 5, 2020. She was born May 7, 1928 in Muskegon, Michigan to Harold and Katherine Bellgardt. She married Floyd John Hall on September 17th, 1949 and he preceded her in death on January 11, 1994.
Donna graduated from Muskegon High School in 1946. She continued her education in business and accounting. Donna met her husband, Floyd, while both working at Hasselman’s Grocery Store in downtown Muskegon. In the early years of their marriage, Floyd and Donna owned their own grocery store, Floyd’s Food Market, on Laketon Avenue. After raising her 3 children, Donna continued her career as a cashier for Meijer, a job she enjoyed for over 25 years. She retired in 1992. Since her retirement, Donna continued to have luncheons with her “Meijer” girls on a regular basis. Donna also attended all of her annual high school reunions. She prided herself on being a “Big Red” and would listen to all of the weekly Big Red football games on the radio. The Detroit Lions and Michigan State football games were also some of her favorites; she was known to get into the weekly betting pools for the big games. Donna was very social and enjoyed her clubs; she was a lifetime member of the Muskegon Polish Catholic Union, the VFW Auxiliary, Lithuanian Club and a past member of the Polish Falcons. She made numerous friends and loved the camaraderie at the fish fries, raffles, charity events and all of the other functions that the clubs would provide. Donna was a very active senior citizen and prided herself on caring for her own lawn until she was 82. She lived alone and took care of all of her household duties and drove her beautiful red Chevy Monte Carlo SS up until a month before her passing. Her greatest joy, though, was spending time with her family.
Donna is survived by her three children: Harold (Shelley) Hall, Sandra Smithers, Peggy (Mike) Williams; eight wonderful grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Mike Smithers.
