Donna Lou Johnson's Obituary
Mrs. Donna Lou Johnson, age 80, passed away Saturday morning, July 17, 2010, at the VNS Hospice House. Donna was born February 20, 1930 to Ralph and Lula (Andrews) Nelson in Muskegon. She retired from Muskegon Public Schools in 1989, after being employed as a clerk for 20 years. Prior to that, Donna had worked for Shaw Walker. On September 15, 1951, she married Harry Anders Johnson at Bluffton Christian Reformed Church in Muskegon. Harry preceded her in death on March 30, 2009. Donna had been a member of Samuel Lutheran Church for more than 50 years. She also was a member of the Vikings Linne’ Lodge #57. Donna had been a long time volunteer at Hackley Hospital, was very active in her bridge club, and was a very avid Tigers fan. She is survived by her 3 daughters, Lou Ann (Ronald ) Hepworth of Muskegon, Karen Johnson of Kalamazoo, and Mary (Robert) Gilbert of Muskegon; 2 grandchildren, Scott Hepworth and Craig Hepworth; her sister-in-law, Helen Nelson; brother-in-law Ted Barrett; and many nieces, nephews, and close friends. Donna was also preceded in death by her brother, Ralph “Bob” Robert Nelson; sister and brother-in-law, Lois and Don Daniels; and sisters-in-law, Elsa Barrett and Gunver Marchido. A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held 11 AM Wednesday, July 21, 2010 at Samuel Lutheran Church (540 Houston Ave.) with Pastor Marcy Miller officiating. VISITATION will be Tuesday evening from 6-8 PM at The Walburn Chapel, Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc. 1547 W. Sherman Blvd 231-759-8565 and 1 hour prior to the service (10-11AM) at the church. MEMORIAL CONTRIBUTIONS may be made to Samuel Lutheran Church, Mercy VNS & Hospice Services, or the Vikings Linne’ Lodge #57 Burn Camp.
