Donnley V. "Don" Putney's Obituary
Donnley V. “Don” Putney, age 97, passed away at home on January 21, 2023. He was born on October 15, 1925, to Louie and Mary (Garvey) Putney in Muskegon, MI. Don served his country in the United States Navy during World War II and proudly served on the Muskegon County Council Veterans of Foreign Wars Honor Guard Team. Don was a member of the Vikings and VFW Post #7729. Don retired in 1986, from Dresser Crane as a crane operator. Don enjoyed working on lawnmowers of all kind, built his own dune buggy and over the years also enjoyed bowling, fishing and camping. He surely enjoyed his visits with the Meekhoff Tire Boys every week as well. On August 6, 1966, he married Irma R. Strandberg and she preceded him in death in 2015. SURVIVORS include daughter, Gina (Dave Garner) Kukor; granddaughter, Ashleigh (Mary) Taylor; companion friend of 7 years, Carol Lincoln; special nieces and caregivers, Marlette (Glenn) Foster, Dianell (Alf) Majors, Clare (Kelly) Strandberg, Josh (Khari) Foster along with many other faithful friends and family members. Don was also preceded in death by his parents; 5 sisters and 1 brother. The family would like say a special thanks for the care and concern Don received from the staff at Spectrum Hospice. A FUNERAL SERVICE and Military Rites will be held 12noon for Don on Thursday, January 26, 2023 at The Sytsema Chapel of Sytsema Funeral and Cremation Services, 737 Apple Ave., Muskegon, MI 49442 with Pastor Mike VanKampen officiating. VISITATION for family and friends will take place from 10am to 12noon prior to the service. MEMORIALS can be directed to Spectrum Hospice or the Muskegon County Council Veterans of Foreign Wars.
