Dorethea Elaine Cousineau's Obituary
Mrs. Dorethea Elaine Cousineau, age 89, went to her heavenly home on Thursday, April 3, 2025. She was born on May 9, 1935, in Reed City, Michigan, to George and Zelpha (Toman) Hensel.
On February 28, 1953, Dorethea married the love of her life, William L. “Bill” Cousineau and they shared 63 wonderful years of marriage. She worked at Meijers for 29 years before retiring in 1999.
Dorethea had a deep love for God and her family. She was a devoted member of Lakeshore Baptist Church, where she actively volunteered and found joy in singing with the choir and serving in the nursery. She loved exercising, walking, skiing, and tending to her yard. She always found beauty and fulfillment in the simple joys of life.
She is lovingly remembered by her children: Joy (James) Verboncouer of North Muskegon, William (Kelly) Cousineau of Muskegon, and Pastor Roger (Barb) Cousineau of Turner, ME; her eight grandchildren: Justin Verboncouer, Will (Macy) Cousineau, Kylie (Damon) Ramaker, Josh (Lorrie) Cousineau, Nate (Lisa) Cousineau, John (Haley) Cousineau, Liliana (Jarod) Farrar, and Pablo Cousineau; and her 22 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Leona Hensel, and in-laws Stanley and Pat Cousineau.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bill; her parents, George and Zelpha Hensel; her grandson, Joshua Verboncouer; and her siblings and in-laws: Delmar Hensel, Marvin and Rae Hensel, Beverly and Jack Kingsbury, and Elaine Cousineau.
A celebration of Dorethea’s life will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 10, 2025 at Lakeshore Baptist Church (17306 Church Hill Drive, Grand Haven, MI 49417), with Pastor Nate Birkholz and Pastor Roger Cousineau officiating. The family will receive visitors one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to Lakeshore Baptist Church would be greatly appreciated. Burial will follow at Laketon Township Cemetery.
