Doris G. Herlein's Obituary
Doris Grace Herlein, age 71, passed away on Thursday, March 16, 2017. She was born on October 18, 1945 to Merlin and Grace (Klemp) Herlein in Muskegon. Doris was a member of the first graduating class at Grand Valley State University in 1967 and then went on to receive her Master’s Degree from Western Michigan University. She then went on to become a music and math teacher in the Grand Rapids Public School Systems. Doris loved music, teaching, her students and all people in general. Most of all she loved to be with her family. She played in the West Michigan Concert Winds as well as the Muskegon High School Alumni Band. Doris is survived by her soulmate, Marilyn Calkins; 15 nieces and nephews; several grandnieces and nephews; and special friend, Jane Keller. The family wishes to thank Arlette Tarte for her skilled care and love of Doris as her faithful caregiver. She was preceded in death by her parents; loving sisters, Vivian, Peggy, Nancy; and brother, Merlin. A VISITATION with the family will take place on Tuesday, March 21, 2017 at The Lee Chapel, 6291 S. Harvey St. (231-798-1100) from 6-8 pm. A FUNERAL SERVICE for Doris will be held on Wednesday, March 22, 2017 at 11:00 AM at the funeral home. Burial will take place in Oakwood Cemetery.
