Doris A. Johnston's Obituary
Mrs. Doris Johnston, age 92, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 13, 2021 in Grand Haven. She was born on May 1, 1928 to Adrian and Martha (DeVries) VanHouten in Muskegon. On March 1, 1947, Dorry married Lloyd Johnston and he preceded her in death on March 25, 1998. She was an active member of her church where she was a Sunday School teacher and a part of the Women’s Fellowship. Dorry enjoyed tending to her garden and fishing and was a proud three-time cancer survivor. Her passion in life was making quilts. She made hundreds throughout her life and sent them all over the world. Dorry was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and great gram. She cherished the time spent with her family and loved hearing what academic and sporting accomplishments the grandkids and great grandkids were up to. Dorry is survived by her children, Connie (Jim) Kuhlman, Ernie (Becky) Johnston and Mark (Connie) Johnston; seven grandchildren, Aaron, Keith, Kerry, Arland, Andy, Mary, and Alex; and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Jacquelyn Boudreau on January 4, 2021; grandchildren, Jeffrey, Kent, and Chet; parents; brother, Harold VanHouten; and sisters, Charlotte Moran, and Lorraine Jourden. A Private Family Service will be held at Sunrise Memorial Gardens. The family would like to extend their gratitude and thanks to the dedicated staff at Robbinswood Assisted Living Community Grand Haven Campus and Hospice of North Ottawa for their wonderful care of Dorry.
