Doris E. Medbury's Obituary
Doris Elaine Medbury, age 92, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, January 17, 2021. She was born on November 11, 1928 to Chester and Helen (Allen) Norconk in Bear Lake, MI. After high school Doris enrolled in the Hackley School of Nursing and went on to work as a dedicated RN at Mercy Hospital for over 35 years. Working as an RN was second nature to Doris; she always put the needs of others before herself and this shone through in both her personal and professional lives. Doris was a member of Woodmere Church of God and was supported by Pastor Jeff Elzinga of Life Tree Community Church. Throughout her life she was able to keep a close group of friends and they got together regularly to play cards and joined a square dance club which brought them a great deal of joy. Turns out Doris was the card shark of the group. One word to best describe Doris was “precious;” you couldn’t help but want to give her a big hug. She was always there to help when someone was in need. Her kind, compassionate heart shone through her brilliant blue eyes, which in high-school earned her the nickname “eyes.” She was fiercely independent, had an impressive stubborn streak, as well as a spunky hilarious side that left everyone guessing what she would say next. She was beautiful inside and out and she loved deeply. On August 19, 1950 she married the love of her life, Arthur Medbury, and they spent 55 happy years together until his passing in April of 2006. Doris is survived by her daughter, Debbie (David Butler) Koats; grandchildren, Erica Koats, Heather Koats, Kyle Koats, Heidi (Neimad Namkeid) Diekman, Cara (Zephyrius) Wolfsdorf, Erin (Joel) Dye, Steven Medbury, Seth Medbury; eight great grandchildren, Jessie, Elise, Phelan, Adaliz, Roger, Morgan, Tyler, Destiny, special nieces, Barbara (Paul) Sedlar and Marilyn (Jerrold) Johnson, many cousins, and son in law, Jim Koats. A special shout out to her loving caregivers, Carolyn, Dee, Tammie, Candy, Millie, Joyce, Sandy. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Arthur; son, Michael Medbury; daughter, Sharon Medbury; granddaughter, Jennifer Koats. A memorial service for Doris will take place on Saturday, October 2, 2021, at 11:00 AM at The Lee Chapel of The Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 6291 S. Harvey St. Norton Shores, MI 49444. Burial has taken place in Egelston Cemetery. Donations in Doris’ name can be made to the Dementia Society of America.
