Mrs. Dorothy Mae (Johnson) Compton's Obituary
Mrs. Dorothy Mae (Johnson) Compton, age 73, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, April 14, 2012 at her home. She was born May 11, 1938 in Cadillac, MI to Arthur and Viola (Sapp) Johnson and lived in the Muskegon area most of her life. She married her high school sweetheart, Charles Lee Compton on April 21, 1956 in Muskegon and he survives her. She worked in housekeeping at Hackley Hospital and retired in 2001 after 28 years. Dorothy and Lee enjoyed many years of traveling around the United States and the provinces of Canada. The only states they hadn’t visited were Delaware and Hawaii. They especially enjoyed camping and have passed this joy to their children and grandchildren. Dorothy had a love of country music and made many trips to Branson, MO. She will be greatly missed by her loving family. Along with her husband of 56 years, Lee, she is survived by 5 healthy and productive children, Chuck (Robin) Compton of Hubert, NC, Gloria (Al) Gonzalez of Charlotte, MI, Loretta (Ken) Sokolowski of Huntsville, AL, Jim (Deanna) Compton of Muskegon, Sheila (Bob) Hayes of Fruitport; 11 grandchildren, Kristy (Chris), Holley (Vincent), Jackie (Shaun), Kari (Kevin), Carmen (Eddy), Joseph (Christina), Daniel (Kim), Roland, Anna, Jared, Dawn (Chad); 6 great-grandchildren, and her step-mother, Frances Johnson of Muskegon. She was preceded in death by her parents and loving brothers- and sisters-in-law. A FUNERAL SERVICE will be held 12:00 PM Wednesday, April 18, 2012 with VISITATION 5-8 PM Tuesday and one hour prior to the service at
