Dorothy Griswold's Obituary
Dorothy Ann Griswold, born in Baltimore, Maryland, July 12, 1962, passed January 3, 2023. She was 60 years of age.
Having received her MA from Loyola University, MD and BS from Towson State University, Baltimore, she continued completing specialized certifications in "health coaching" and "food cooking, processing and handling."
Moving from Grand Rapids to Muskegon, Michigan, June of 2015, she continued sharing her experience, knowledge, and passion for ethically sourced local organic foods. Working with Community enCompass as Education Coordinator and then Muskegon Family Care as Program Manager, she pursued her mission educating on the importance of whole organic foods.
Dorothy was passionate about the Farm to Table movement. Coordinating educational opportunities for youth that focused on Urban Organic Farming and creating partnerships with community organizations, were part of her forte. She started Prescription for Food and many other programs to help move our community towards healthy eating. Dorothy taught cooking classes, coached patients to better health and was passionate about teaching, managing, networking, public speaking, fundraising, planning, grant writing, and organizing curriculum development. She was determined to get the word out on the importance of healthy eating. She knew most all local organic farmers and was dedicated to the Muskegon Farmers and Sweetwater Markets, Muskegon County Food Council, and many organizations and food pantries.
Dorothy was a lifestyle fitness advocate including swimming, skiing, hiking the beaches and dunes along our shoreline, and an active member at MCC Lakeshore Fitness center, however, nothing moved Dorothy more than dancing and singing with her beloved friends.
Dorothy was the person that would give you whatever she had and a true woman of faith.
Prior to making Muskegon home, Dorothy did active volunteer work in the Grand Rapids community with Healthy Food with Churches, Our Kitchen Table, Greater Grand Rapids Food System, and Eastown Community Association. She also did work with Chapel Haven Inc., Community Ventures in Living, and North End Community Ministries.
After making Muskegon her home, her email address was...
