Dorothy M. "Dolly" Gardenour's Obituary
Mrs. Dorothy May “Dolly” Gardenour, age 94, passed away Tuesday, October 20, 2015 in Muskegon. She was born in Hinchwick, England on June 13, 1921 to Edward J. and Alice M. (Kilmister) Cross. Dorothy fell in love with a United States soldier, George E. Gardenour, and they married on August 26, 1944 in Dumbleton, England. They moved to the Muskegon area in 1946 and in 1972, George passed away and left Dorothy a widow. She took it upon herself to find a job, which she did, and spent 20 years working as a cook at Orchard View Middle School before retiring in 1990. She also had a side business, Mom’s Catering, which she operated into her 80’s and she was a floral designer. She was a past member of the Church of England and Lakeside United Methodist Church. Dolly enjoyed playing BINGO, trips to the casino, and being a member of the Orchard View Boosters Club and the British War Brides Club. She is survived by her three children, Curtis (Joann) Gardenour, Gary (Kathy) Gardenour, and Wendy (Kirk) Swanson; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Eileen Townley, Margaret Shorter, and Janet (Tony) Major. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers. A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held at 1:00 PM Monday, October 26, 2015 at The Walburn Chapel, 1547 W. Sherman, 231-759-8565 with Rev. Jerry DePoy officiating. VISITATION will be one hour prior to her service.
