Dorothy Mae (Mansfield) Helsen's Obituary
Mrs. Dorothy Mae (Mansfield) Helsen age 85, of Ravenna died, Saturday, June 8, 2013 at home surrounded by her loving family.
Dorothy was born on December 14, 1927 in Ravenna, Michigan to the late Henry “Joe†and Hazel (Blackmer) Mansfield. Dorothy was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was a life-long member of St. Catherines Catholic Church, Altar Society and Ravenna American Legion Auxiliary. She married Isidore “Ike†on on October 6, 1948 in Ravenna, Michigan. He preceded her in death after 60 years of marriage on September 25, 2009.
Dorothy is survived by her 10 children: Michael (Laurie) Helsen, Steven Helsen, Randolph (Barb) Helsen, Debra (Bruce) Braspenninx, Mary (Ken) Patterson, Jean (Gary) Smoes, Mark (Julie) Helsen, Ruth (Adam) Pyman, Paul (Ann) Helsen, and Gregory (Karen) Helsen. Sister: Marilyn (Monte) O’Brien. Brothers in-laws: Joseph (Helen) Helsen, Eugene (Margaret) Helsen and Arthur Klein. Sisters in law: Bernadine (Vincent) Klein and Josephine (James) Piccard 25 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Dorothy was preceded in death in addition to her parents and husband by: Special Uncle Tom Fisher, Grandson Brian Braspenninx and granddaughter in-law: Victoria (Walter) Patterson.
Mass from the Order of Christian Funerals will be celebrated on Tuesday, June 11, 2013 at 10:00am at St. Catherines Catholic Church with Father Fred Brucker celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Catherines Cemetery.
The family will be at the St. Catherines Hall on Monday, June 10, 2013 from 4:00 to 7:00pm to receive friends. The Rosary will be prayed at 7:00pm with the Ladies from the Altar Society. Also on Tuesday 1 hour prior to the service at church.
Memorials may be directed to: St. Catherines Endowment Fund, Ravenna Community Educational Foundation or the Ravenna American Legion.
