Dorothy Miller's Obituary
Dorothy Miller, age 94, of Grand Haven went to be with her Lord on Monday, February 19, 2024, at home. She was born May 14, 1929, in Grand Haven to Mathias and Katherine (Mayer) Hackstock. She grew up in Robinson Township at “the farm”. In high school, she lived and worked for the Hosteter family so she could be close to school. Dorothy then worked at Grand Haven State Bank where she met the love of her life Milton Miller and they were married on August 1, 1952, in Grand Haven. The couple moved for a short time to San Diego while Milton served his country in the Navy.
Dorothy then worked at North Ottawa Community Hospital for twenty-five years at the reception desk. She was a very active member of First Presbyterian Church in Grand Haven, serving as deacon, Presbyterian Women Circle, and volunteering in the office. Dorothy also worked hard as a homemaker raising the four girls and serving as a girl scout leader. Her biggest joy in life was spending time with and helping her family.
She is lovingly remembered by her four daughters: Linda Green, Janis (Jeremy) Laughead, Kathleen (Mike) Nelson and Debra (Christopher) DePagter; five grandchildren: Kellie (Brandon) Birchmeier, Bri Laughead, Jeremy (Georgeanne) Green, Jordan (Taylor) Green and Angela Brown; twelve great-grandchildren: Brody, Colin, Myla, Mia, Avery, Ehren, Noah, Jaxon, Hudson, Kason, Charlie and Larson; two sisters, Kathryn McCrea and Elsie Kraai; sister-in-law, Norma Hackstock, brother-in-law, Leslie “Les” Miller; and numerous loving nieces and nephews; and her best furry friend, Taya. She was preceded in death by her husband, Milton Miller on March 1, 2007, son, James “Jimmy” Miller, granddaughter, Sommer Laughead, son-in-law, Fred Green, two sisters, Irma Cooke and Ruth Hackstock, two brothers, Herman Hackstock, Albert Hackstock.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 27, 2024, at First Presbyterian Church in Grand Haven with Rev. Kristine Aragon Bruce officiating. Friends may meet the family one hour prior to the service at church. Memorials in Dorothy’s name can be directed to First Presbyterian Church of Grand Haven.
