Dorothy Elma Plyler's Obituary
Dorothy Elma (Clark) Plyler was born April 9, 1938 to Joe and Edith (Bradshaw) Clark in Ludington, MI and married David Plyler June 27, 1959. Together they have two children, Jonathan Plyler of Lenoir City, TN and Jeffrey Plyler of Muskegon.
Dorothy was active in church throughout her life and was a member of Bethel Baptist Church of Muskegon for over fifty years, teaching Sunday School, working with women's, GMG, and AWANA ministries. Dorothy liked to entertain and served many meals in their home over the years to family, friends, guest speakers, and missionaries.
Dorothy is survived by her husband of 64 years, David Plyler of Muskegon, children Jonathan of Lenoir City, TN, and Jeff (Kimberly) of Muskegon, daughter-in-law Anna Clines of Muskegon, sister Rosamond (Louis) Carlson of Ludington, sister-in-law Nancy (Mike) Callahan of Kaw City, OK, seven grandchildren; Matthew (Sarah) Plyler of Lenoir City, TN, Samuel Plyler of Muskegon, Greg Plyler of Grand Rapids, Lilly Plyler of Muskegon, Olivia (Zech) Gurley of Portland, MI, Ian Kelsey and Colin Kelsey of Muskegon; two great grandchildren, Micah Plyler and Eve Plyler of Lenoir City, TN, niece Rita (Gary) Kolanowski of Ludington, nephew Brian Carlson of Ludington, nephew Tom (Lisa) Carlson of Brooklyn, WI, niece Rachel (Brian) Martin of Topeka, KS, nephew Adam Hummel of Salina, KS, Sharon (John) Zortman of York Haven, PA, Debbie Herman of York, PA, Johnny (Ellen Bower) Plyler of York, PA, and several great nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her father- and mother-in-law, Alden and Lillian Plyler, brothers-in-law John Plyler and Robert Plyler.
A Funeral Service will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, September 21, 2023 at Bethel Baptist Church of Norton Shores, 1066 E. Byron Rd., with Pastor Douglas VanderMolen officiating. Visitation will be held 4-7 PM Wednesday at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 6291 Harvey St, Norton Shores, MI 49444. Visitation also be held one hour prior to the service at church on Thursday. Interment will take place at Norton Cemetery.
