Dorothy Mae Rogers' Obituary
Mrs. Dorothy M. Rogers, age 79, passed away Saturday, October 11, 2014. She was born in Belding, MI on May 27, 1935 to the late Russell Glenn and Bertha May (Rininger) Lee. She married Kenneth Gilmore, who preceded her in death on March 20,1981. On July 11, 1986, she married Alfred Rogers who preceded her in death on October 7, 2012. Dorothy was employed as Secretary at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church for many years. She is survived by 3 daughters, JoAnn (Mike) Panzl of Frankfort, MI, Suelyn (Scott) Brodie of Saline, MI and Kristina (Ernest) Varela of Fruitport, MI; her step-children, Steve (Theresa) Rogers and Kathy (Robert) Smith); her brother, Jerry Lee of Baldwin, MI; half-sister, Imogene Harris of Belding, MI; step-sister, Donna Parks of Belding, MI; 18 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, Kim Gilmore on January 27, 2014 and a step-sister, Sally Eady. Dorothy was a member of Temple United Methodist Church and was an active volunteer for MAP (Mission for Area People). She enjoyed gardening, quilting and cross stitch. Dorothy brought joy to those she knew with her infectious laugh, independent spirit, and willingness to talk with everyone. She and her husband, Ken Gilmore, achieved this goal through their Western Square Dance clubs in Hastings, Fremont, and at Orchard View. Through square dancing, she met her second husband, Alfred Rogers. They enjoyed their 26 years together sharing daily drives through Pere Marquette Park, traveling, and participating in their community. She enjoyed walking with her friends at Mercy’s Cardiac Rehab and sharing meals at Cherokee and Herbie’s. A Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, 2:00 p.m., October 14, 2014 at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc., 6291 S. Harvey St., Norton Shores, MI 49444, with Pastor Jeff Bowman officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. She will be laid to rest in Lakeside Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Poppen Residence of Harbor Hospice.
