Being the baby of the family I have many memories of my sisters growing up and several different sides of my big sister Janie.
Mischievous Janie:
There were the four of us sisters (Jean, Janie, Ann, and myself) and my cousin Beatty, who frequently spent the nights together. Janie and my cousin Beatty were the mischievous of the five of us girls. One weekend evening Janie and Beatty decided to sneak out of the window for a short girl’s night out. They would not allow my older sisters Jean and Ann to join them so Jean and Ann - for mocked revenge- locked the window so that Janie and Beatty could not sneak back in. Needless to say my dad was all too happy to dish out a fair punishment... they never snuck out of the house again.
Angel Janie:
Each evening at bed time it was Janie who went into our room, sat on the side of the bed, and as I knelt taught me to say my prayers. I think she did the job just as well as a nun.
My grown up big sister:
My sister Janie and my brother-in-law Allen used to bring Krissy to Grand Rapids every Sunday to swim in our pool. Neither Janie nor I had suitable swimming suits. So.... I.... made two swimming suits, one for each of us. I thought they were beautiful; one was a pale green with large white polka dots, and the other was a rose color with large blossomed flowers. Confidentially and gracefully she and I entered our swimming pool only to have our swim suits fill up with water expanding like big balloons around us - weigh us down. All present had a great laugh as well humbly dragged ourselves and our heavy bloomer style suits (reminiscent of the 1920s) out of the water.
