Dorothy Mae Sklenar's Obituary
Dorothy Mae Sklenar, age 89, of Muskegon, MI was called to her heavenly home on Tuesday, October 29, 2019. She is reunited with her beloved husband, Bill, and together they are holding hands in the presence of their Lord and Savior.
Dorothy was born on February 28, 1930 to the late Albert Sr. and Stella (Tokarz) Rebone of Muskegon. On July 15, 1961, she married Bill in Muskegon. She spent her early married life raising her children. Later on, she worked for Butternut Bakery and eventually became the supervisor. She retired after 27 years.
Dorothy was a long-time member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church. She was a devout Catholic and faithfully prayed the rosary. She enjoyed cooking and baking, especially her homemade pies. She took delight in sewing everything from clothes to curtains to Halloween costumes. She enjoyed family picnics on Sunday, traveling, and dancing with her husband to Glenn Miller or to a polka. Her loving smile, gentle touch, and giving ways will forever remind us of what a special person she was.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Bill; sister, Gloria; brother, Albert Rebone Jr.; grandson, Eric Doza; sister-in-law, Betsy Sklenar; brothers-in-law, Bob Sklenar and Harold Johnson; niece, Debbie DuRocher; and family friend, Joe Zagaroli.
Dorothy will be lovingly remembered by her children, Deb (Bill) Rowan, Pat (Steve) Siembida, Ken Sklenar, Randy (Nan) Sklenar, Diane (Fred) van Hartesveldt, Steve (Jill) Sklenar, Joe (Maribeth) Sklenar; 21 grandchildren, Joel (Beth) Portincasa, Chris (Angela) Portincasa, Lauren (Phil) Bredberg, Scott (Jen) Siembida, Scott (Heidi) Doza, Paul (Susan) Siembida, Laura (Jeff) Miller, Sarah (Nick) Garner, Alicia (Bryan) McKinney, David Jeffers, Allison (Andrew) Shapiro, Noah van Hartesveldt, Catalina van Hartesveldt, Nathan Sklenar, Brandon Sklenar, Jason Sklenar, Amy Sklenar, Megan (Tyler) Anderson, Lee Sklenar, Abby Sklenar, Jackson Sklenar; 23 great-grandchildren; sisters Theresa (George) Doppel and Barb Johnson; sister-in-law Martha Sklenar, brother-in-law Ed (Carol) Sklenar; and many nieces & nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11AM Saturday, November 2, 2019 at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church with Fr. Charles D. Hall presiding. Visitation will be held 5-8 PM Friday, November 1, 2019 at The Walburn Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services 1547 W. Sherman Blvd. Muskegon, MI 49441 (231) 759-8565 with a Scripture Service at 7:00 PM. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to Mass, from 10-11 AM Saturday at the church. Internment will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery. Memorial contribution may be made to Alzheimer’s Association, St. Francis de Sales Church, or Hospice of North Ottawa.
