Dorothy J. "Dort" Stout's Obituary
Dorothy Jane “Dort” Stout, age 97, passed away Monday, November 21, 2022. She was born January 30, 1925 in Muskegon to Ben and Lillian (Mangelson) Markowski. On December 2, 1946, she married Donald L. Stout in Jeffersonville, IN and he preceded her in death on December 4, 2015. Dort loved to garden, but was most proud of raising her family and maintaining the home they lived in. She was a member of the Vikings Linne’ Lodge 57 and auxiliary member of the F.O.P. #99. Dort and Don were active members of the F.O.P. and in the beginning were 1 of 10 families to take out a loan to build the local lodge in Twin Lake. She also helped establish the first Women’s Auxiliary. SURVIVORS include her children: Ronald (Cindy Chapman) Stout, Daniel (Flora) Stout, Debra Stout all of Muskegon, and Sharon (Terry) Johnson of Tampa, FL; 12 grandchildren: Matt, Chris, Scott, Becky, Danny, Chad, Nikki, Rhonda, Michelle, Erin, Olivia, and Kelley; 19 great-grandchildren; brother, Robert (Bonnie) Markowski of Muskegon; 2 sisters: Vivian Coon and Virginia Winicki all of Muskegon; brother-in-law, Paul Yarborough; many nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Shelley Stout; 3 brothers: Ben, Tommy, and Raymond Markowski; and 3 sisters: Alice Markowski, Mary English, and Jeanette Yarborough. FUNERAL SERVICES for Dort will be held 12 Noon on Monday, November 28, 2022 at The Walburn Chapel of Sytsema Funeral and Cremation Services, 1547 W. Sherman Blvd., Muskegon, MI 49441 (231) 759-8565. VISITATION with the family will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will take place in Lakeside Cemetery. Memorials to the VFW Don Rea Post 8846 or the Noah Project will be appreciated.
