Dorothy Naomi Van Dam's Obituary
Dorothy Naomi Van Dam, age 96, loving mother and grandmother, passed away Saturday evening, April 6, 2018. She was born August 12, 1921 in Muskegon to George and Gladys (Hayes) Horton. In 1939 she married Arnold Van Dam in Muskegon and he preceded her in death on August 31, 1975. Dorothy worked as a clerk and jail guard for the Muskegon County Sheriffs Department for over 18 years prior to her retirement. She was a member of Allen Avenue Christian Reformed Church. SURVIVORS include 3 children: Douglas (Nell) Van Dam, Ward (Rochelle) Van Dam both of Muskegon, Mark (Deborah) Van Dam of Traverse City; 8 grandchildren: Stephanie and Bradley Van Dam, Melissa (Jon) Witteveen, Ashley (Tony) Terbeek, Derek Van Dam, Jeffery (Erika) Van Dam, Lisa and Laura Van Dam; 10 great-grandchildren; sister, Marlene Phillips; and many nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Virginia Wesolowski. A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held 11:00 AM Friday, April 27, 2018 at The Lee Chapel, 6291 S. Harvey St., (231) 798-1100 with Rev. Benjamin Oliveira officiating. VISITATION with the family will be from 6-8 PM Thursday, April 26, 2018 at the funeral home. Burial will take place in Oakwood Cemetery.
