Dorothy M. VanHoeven's Obituary
Dorothy Mae (Winsemius) Van Hoeven passed away, Sunday, November 18, 2018 in her home, at the age of 90. She was born in Berwyn, Illinois to Harry and Anna Kent Winsemius, grew up in Grand Rapids graduating from Ottawa Hills High School and Blodgett School of Nursing as an OB RN. Dorothy was married to Reverend Gordon Russell Van Hoeven. He preceded her in death on July 11, 2015 after 64 years of marriage. Dorothy enjoyed gardening, knitting, playing cards with her friends, and taking care of others, but most of all she loved being with her children, 20 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Dorothy will always be remembered and missed by her four children, Steve (Maria) Van Hoeven, Carol (Don) Frifeldt, Joe (Alanna) Van Hoeven, and Mary Beth (Steve) Shumaker. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren include Travis (JoAnne) Lang, Graydon, Brinley and Lawson; Kent, Adam and Isaac Van Hoeven; Jesse (Amanda) Frifeldt; Allison Cherry; Eric (Hannah) Frifeldt, Leah ; Abbey (Mike) Postlewait, Jonah Van Hoeven; Jake Van Hoeven; Ben (Lindsay) Van Hoeven, Benjamin and Jaxon; Gordy (Darlene) Dahlman, Lilliana Rose; Matt (Jaime) Dahlman; Josh (Melanie) Dahlman; and many Shumaker children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her brother, Kent Winsemius, and grandson, Joey Frifeldt. Her family will celebrate her life in a private ceremony.
