Dorothy Jean Washington-Lane's Obituary
Dorothy Jean Washington-Lane, age 87, of Muskegon passed away Friday, September 10, 2021. Dorothy was born on May 4, 1934, in Brookhaven, Mississippi to Howard and Callie (Francis) Washington. After receiving her bachelor’s degree from Alcorn State University she went on to work as a schoolteacher in Muskegon Heights. She later received her master’s degree from Grand Valley State University, and after teaching for 40 years she retired in 1999. Dorothy was a fun woman who loved everyone that she met. In her free time she enjoyed working on crossword puzzles, but also loved to watch Family Feud and various courtroom television shows. Dorothy will be lovingly remembered by her family. She is survived by her daughter, Felecia Faye Lane; two sons: Steven Keith Lane and Lee Andrew Lane Jr.; five grandchildren: Nikia (Nicholas) Sain, Lee Andrew Jennings, Kiara Beacham, Kelcie Lane, and Zaria Lane; nine great-grandchildren: Takerra Lane, Paradise Lane, Kamilah Lane, Jada Sain, Marshall Sain, Nickarri Lane, Kai Sain, Ariana Roberson, and William Roberson; five great-great-grandchildren: Ashton Lane-Cook, Aubri Williams, Audrey Lane, Lee Andrew Jennings, and Pierre Lane; and her brother, Robert Washington. She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Lee Andrew Lane; second husband, Andrew Lee Washington; and two brothers: Howard Washington Jr. and Shelton Washington. A memorial service for Dorothy will be taking place on Friday, September 24, 2021 at 1:00 PM at the Sytsema Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services (737 E. Apple Ave, Muskegon, MI, 49442). An hour of visitation with the family will take place before the service, starting at 12:00 PM. Donations in Dorothy’s memory can be made out to Muskegon Heights Public Schools or The National Breast Cancer Foundation.
