Mrs. Dorothy M. Wierenga's Obituary
Dorothy M. Wierenga, 94, passed away February 13, 2012. Dorothy was born in 1918 in Hesperia, MI to Lyle and Alma (Maynard) Townsend and was a graduate of Muskegon High School. She met Hank Wierenga at the Forest Home Reformed Church and they married in 1937. Dorothy worked at Sealed Power Corp. and after she retired, spent many enjoyable winters in Harlingen, TX. After selling her home in East Muskegon, she moved to Pine Grove Apartments. In recent years, she had been a resident of the Oceana Nursing Home in Hart, MI. Dorothy is survived by her sons, Lyle (Bev) Wierenga, Ted (Pat) Wierenga; daughter, Ann (Jim) Johnson; grandchildren, Brian Wierenga, Lori (Matthew) VanHoef, Heather (Guido) Venittuci, Leah Wierenga, Mike (Kathleen) Johnson, Nancy (Bill) Mulligan; great-grandchildren, Justin and Jaycie Wierenga, Chase and Samantha VanHoef, Patrick and Katie McKernan, and Jacob and Katelyn Mulligan; brother, Dale Townsend; sister-in-law, Betty Ohs; and many cousins; nieces; nephews; and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Henry ‘Hank’; two brothers, Dick and Bill; and three grandchildren. A time of VISITATION with the family will be begin at 1:00 PM, with the FUNERAL SERVICE at 2:00 PM, Saturday, February 18, 2012 at The Lee Chapel, 6291 S. Harvey St., (231) 798-1100. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
