Mrs. Dorothy E. Zuidema's Obituary
Mrs. Dorothy E. Zuidema, age 88, went to be with her Lord, Wednesday, July 9, 2014 at the Poppen Residence. She was born on March 28, 1926 in Montague to Henry and Agnes (Weesies) Sikkenga, and resided in the West Michigan area all of her life. Dorothy enjoyed crafting, reading, ceramics and camping; but, most of all enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren. She was a member of Allen Ave. Christian Reformed Church where she belonged to Mary Martha and Ladies Aide. Dorothy also volunteered at Muskegon Christian School. On June 5, 1946 she married Herman J. Zuidema, and he preceded her in death on March 9, 2002. SURVIVORS include 5 children, Diane (David) Bennink of Spring Lake, Nancy (Alan) Yonkman of Canton, Thomas Zuidema of Manassas, VA, Debra Strohm of Muskegon and Lori Thomas also of Muskegon; 11 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; sisters, Florence Saunders and Betty (Glenn) Niemeyer; brother, Roger (Joan) Sikkenga; and many nieces and nephews. Dorothy was also preceded in death by her parents; son-in-law, David Strohm; granddaughter, Jodi Strohm; and brothers, Robert Sikkenga, Harold Sikkenga and Edwin Sikkenga. FUNERAL SERVICES will be 11:00 AM Friday, July 11, 2014 at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc., 6291 S. Harvey St., Norton Shores, MI 49444 (231-798-1100), with Rev. John Rop officiating. VISITATION with the family will be 6-8:00PM Thursday and one-hour prior to the service. MEMORIAL CONTRIBUTIONS to Western Michigan Christian High School or Muskegon Christian School will be appreciated. Burial will take place in Restlawn Cemetery.
