Dorothy Irene Downing's Obituary
Mrs. Dorothy Irene Downing, age 78, died early Thursday morning, September 30, 2004. She was born December 13, 1925 in Jackson, Wisconsin to Cleveland and Grace (Brooks) Mathews and had resided in the Twin Lake area for 51 years. Mrs. Downing was a great cook and waitress for 30 years in the Hesperia, Muskegon, and Grant areas for several restaurants, and also worked for the Quality Inn Motel for 13 years. She attended Bethany Christian Reformed Church. On October 20, 1945, she married Harry Downing in Fremont, and he preceded her in death on January 15, 1981. SURVIVORS include 3 daughters, Cheryl (William) Hendrie of Muskegon, Edith Hughey of Muskegon, Ruth (Craig) Blanchette of Rockford; 7 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; sister, Edith (Russell) Ronning of Muskegon; sister-in-law, Alice Mathews of Muskegon; and many nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her parents; brother, Arnold Mathews; and son-in-law, John Hughey. SERVICES will be 1:00 PM Monday at Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc. 737 Apple Ave. (231) 726-5210 with Pastor David Sieplinga officiating. Burial will be in Sunrise Memorial Gardens.
