Dorothy J. VanderStelt's Obituary
Dorothy J. VanderStelt, age 94, of Grand Haven passed away Tuesday, August 12, 2008, at the Faith Hospice Trillium Woods Residence in Byron Center. She was born March 5, 1914, in Grand Haven to William and Agnes (DeWitt) Boyink, and she married Adrian G. VanderStelt on December 24, 1936, in Grand Haven. He preceded her in death in 1996.
Mrs. VanderStelt was a member of Second Reformed Church in Grand Haven where she formerly participated as a choir member, Sunday School teacher, and a member of the Ladies Guild. Dorothy enjoyed working as a sales clerk at Steketee’s for many years and was also Miss Liberty for the City of Grand Haven in 1931.
Survivors include her daughter, Merikay Wierenga of Grand Rapids; her son, William (Carolyn) VanderStelt of Grand Haven; five grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Rae VanderVoort, and three brothers: Lawrence, Stuart, and Dick Boyink.
The service for Dorothy will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 15, 2008, in the East chapel of VanZantwick Bartels Kammeraad Funeral Home in Grand Haven with Rev. Lary Jackson officiating. Friends may meet the family 7-9 p.m. Thursday, August 14, and one hour prior to the service on Friday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Lake Forest Cemetery. Memorial contributions to the Youth Mission Ministries at Second Reformed Church or to Christian Haven Home are appreciated.
