Dorothy M. Baker's Obituary
Mrs. Dorothy May Baker, age 96, went to be with her Lord Thursday morning, January 28, 2010 in Ferrysburg. She was born May 12, 1913 to William and Cora (Rogers) Hesselbart in Tonawanda, NY, and lived in the Muskegon area for over 60 years. Dorothy worked for the United States Post Office for 30 years, retiring in 1978, and was a member of Cornerstone Free Methodist Church in Holton for over 45 years. She served the church as a pianist, adult Sunday School teacher, and was part of the Women’s Missionary Society. She was most known for being a Bible Scholar, having graduated as the valedictorian from the Fort Wayne Bible College (now Taylor University). She was a gifted seamstress, using her gifts to help many families in this area, and was always very active in the Twin Lake community. On May 11, 1940 Dorothy married H. Richard Baker in Lindsey, Ohio, and he preceded her in death on July 20, 1986. SURVIVORS include3 children, Richard (Charity) Baker of Twin Lake, Jared (Penny) Baker of Niles, MI, Sharlene (Cecil) MacLaren of Spring Lake; 6 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; 1 sister, Janice (Bruce) Harris of Lebanon, OH; many nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by 2 sisters, Lucille Niswander and Bernice Overmeyer. SERVICES will be 4:00 PM Sunday, January 31, at The Lee Chapel, Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc. 6291 S. Harvey St. (231-798-1100 with Rev. David Gruber and Rev. Nick Casteel officiating. Burial will take place at Twin Lake Cemetery. VISITATION at the funeral home will be from 2-4 PM Sunday.
