Dorothy Rose Gitre's Obituary
Dorothy Rose Gitre, age 91, of Spring Lake passed away Tuesday, April 1, 2008, at a local hospital. She was born September 18, 1916, in Gerard, Ohio, to William and Jessica (Zimmerman) Moriarty, and she married Stanley Gitre on November 24, 1934, in Detroit. He preceded her in death in February of 1978.
Mrs. Gitre graduated from St. Ambrose High School in Detroit. She and her husband previously owned and operated an insurance agency in Grosse Pointe Farms, where she was a longtime volunteer at the Cottage Hospital, an award-winning member of the Grosse Pointe Garden Club, and a member of the Altar Society at St. Paul’s Catholic Church. She moved to Spring Lake fifteen years ago and was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. She enjoyed gardening and traveling with her husband, and she was proud to say that she had visited all fifty states in the U.S. Above all she loved spending time with her family, which included five generations.
Dorothy is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Gail (Mike) Riley of Spring Lake; four grandchildren: Kathleen Robbe of Spring Lake, Stephen (Marian) Riley of Novi, MI, Patrick (Laura) Riley of Fraser, MI, and Timothy (Sheila) Riley of Grand Haven; ten great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mil (Art) Ternes of Dunedin, FL, and Jean (Ron) Smith of Anchor Bay, MI; a sister-in-law, Arlynn Moriarty; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley; a daughter, Debra Gitre; two brothers, William and Robert Moriarty; and a sister-in-law, Illa Moriarty.
The funeral liturgy for Dorothy will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 5, 2008, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Spring Lake with Rev. Leonard Sudlik as celebrant. Friends may meet the family one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in Resurrection Cemetery in Clinton Township.
