Douglas Lee "Doug" Van Cura's Obituary
Douglas Lee “Doug” Van Cura, age 61, passed away Saturday, August 1, 2020, at Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids after a brief illness. He was born February 19, 1959, in Grand Haven, to Emil and Carol (Tragna) Van Cura, and married his 8th grade sweetheart Elizabeth Plowman on March 1, 1980, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Grand Haven.
Doug was a member of St. Patrick – St. Anthony Catholic Church. He was an avid outdoorsman, loved fly fishing, hunting, excellent carpenter, and was a “weekend farmer”.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Elizabeth “Liz” Van Cura; daughter, Samantha (Jeff) Stowers; son, Adam (Melissa) Van Cura; two grandchildren, Eleanor “Ellie” Stowers and Benjamin “Benny” Stowers; his mother, Carol Van Cura; and two brothers, Greg Van Cura and Scott (Vicky) Van Cura, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father Emil Van Cura.
A graveside service for Doug will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, August 6, 2020, at Lakeshore Cemetery with Rev. Charles Schwartz officiating. Memorials to Hospice of North Ottawa Community are appreciated. Services are entrusted to The VanZantwick Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 620 Washington Ave, Grand Haven, MI 49417.
